A £500,000 a year salary for a project manager/troubleshooter in the Ministry of Defence for the new Dreadnought nuclear submarines, as reported in the Telegraph this morning, is one more reminder of the financial cost of Trident replacement.
But of course there’s also the massive cost in insecurity, fear and the almost unimaginable impact of the use of nuclear weapons. Something we’ve all had to think about in the past couple of days.
We could save all this money to spend on things that we need and are actually usable, and offer a huge boost to the global push, involving more than 100 countries, for a ban on these hideous weapons of mass destruction.
Then we wouldn’t have to worry about a future US president or North Korean leader in the same way ever again.
